Milling and Size Reduction of High Purity Materials using Ball Milling Technology
|
|
Project Overview: The customer wanted AVEKA to develop a process that would successfully reduce the particle size of a special high value added ceramic pigment. Such size reduction is a common request. However, in this case the customer required that virtually no additional ions (Fe, Ni, Mg, Na, Cr, Si) be added to their high value materials. Contamination-free milling to reduce particle size is a considerable process challenge.
AVEKA Solution: AVEKA responded to this customer's needs by using a proprietary ball milling process. In such a process a specially cleaned and conditioned bead mill with ceramic lining is used in conjunction with high purity, high hardness ceramic media. The added pigment and continuous phase (with surface active agents) were milled to successfully obtain sub micron particle size distribution with no detectible additional ionic cross contamination added. Similar technology could be used to make slurries suitable for high tech ceramics, microelectronic, medical devise or food applications where cross contamination with ions are not allowed.
Project Points:
- Product Purpose: milling, size reduction
