The Challenge:
The customer needed to lower the soluble salt level of ground shells to qualify the material as a filler in subsequent processing. For ease of handling up stream, the resulting product needed to be in the form of a dry, free-flowing powder.

AVEKA Solution:
Production of a suitable product for the customer’s needs required several processing steps. To remove the salt, AVEKA implemented a washing step to de-ionize the shells. This washing step left the material as a wet cake, which was not acceptable. To solve this problem, AVEKA centrifuged the wet cake and then dried it in a fluid bed dryer. By installing new infrastructure and establishing a long-term manufacturing relationship, AVEKA was able to produce the large quantities the customer needed.
