The customer was looking for a way to classify their glass powder waste to be used in a new application. To fit the new application, the glass needed to have a very tight particle size distribution. Yield was also important to keep the cost down to ensure the price point would match what the market could sustain.
AVEKA suggested double-pass air classification to achieve the right particle size distribution. During the trial, AVEKA created several samples by varying processing parameters. AVEKA provided product that met the desired specifications and drastically improved yield with a very small shift of the particle size distribution on the large and small side. By shifting the d(10), d(50), and d(90) by +/- 2%, the yield improved from 45% to 73%. The precision control and optimization of the processing parameters by the AVEKA team greatly benefited the customer.
