Project Overview: The customer had a need to process their rough, jagged particles into smooth, more spherical particles in order to ease use and flow ability. Due to several characteristics such as viscosity or molecular weight, some meltable material do not easily form spheres when spray chilled/prilled.
AVEKA Solution: AVEKA determined that spheroidization can be a possible process for modifying the customer's material. The particles are rapidly passed through an intensely heated area within the chamber of the spheroidizer. As this process occurs, the outside of the material melts, flows, and as it cools, forms a smooth surface resulting in a more spherical particle. Spheroidization may be used to improve the flow characteristics of powders or to make an imperfect coating more continuous.
