Precision Milling: Scaling Fine Powder Production with the Air Swept Pulverizer (ASP)

In the world of particle technology, achieving a fine, consistent grind without compromising material integrity is a constant challenge. While traditional hammermills are industry staples, certain applications require a higher level of control and a finer particle size distribution.

To meet these demands, we are excited to announce the full integration of the Air Swept Pulverizer (ASP) into our processing suite at our Fredericksburg, Iowa facility. This addition enhances our milling services by offering a high-energy, screenless solution for ultra-fine grinding.

How the ASP Works: High-Impact Turbulence

Unlike traditional mills that rely on screens—which are prone to binding or breaking—the ASP utilizes a screenless design. This significantly reduces the risk of product contamination and mechanical downtime.

The ASP operates on the principle of high-velocity impact energy. The material is subjected to extremely fast tip speeds as it passes through a series of rotating beater plates and wall liners. This creates intense turbulence, causing particles to fracture against the liners and each other.

Key Technical Specifications:

  • Rotational Speed: 3900 RPM
  • Air Flow: 1750 CFM
  • Customizable Intensity: Configurable with 2 to 5 beater plates depending on the required particle fineness.

Temperature Control and Material Integrity

One of the primary advantages of the ASP is its ability to manage thermal-sensitive materials. By utilizing high-volume airflow (1750 CFM), we can move powder through the system rapidly. This “air-swept” mechanism prevents heat buildup, ensuring that the material stays within a controlled temperature range—an essential feature for food-grade products and heat-sensitive chemicals.

Versatility in Particle Engineering

The ASP is not a “one-size-fits-all” machine; it is a highly tunable instrument. By adjusting specific “levers,” our engineering team can dial in the exact specifications required for your project:

  • For Finer Particles: We can increase rotation speed, reduce feed rates, or decrease beater plate clearance.
  • For Heat-Sensitive Grinds: We can increase airflow or utilize pre-cooled inlet air to maintain product stability.
  • Hybrid Processing: Our suite includes a Zigzag blender integration, allowing for liquid-to-powder blending immediately prior to the milling process.
