The Challenge:
The customer approached AVEKA requesting a contamination-free milling process for an abrasive product requiring tight particle size control and a narrow particle size distribution. The customer previously had used ball milling, but the abrasive caused significant wear on the equipment, and the process led to an unacceptable throughput and too broad of a particle size distribution.

AVEKA Solution:
AVEKA
ran jet milling trials and was able to provide several samples of material across a varied range of jet milling parameters. After optimizing the preferred set of conditions, the final milled product was free of contamination with a tight d(50) particle size tolerance of +/- 0.2 microns and a narrow particle size distribution. The throughput of this process was significantly higher than the previous ball milling method and created a superior product with better flow characteristics.
