What is Tablet Coating?

Tablet coating is a process where particles tumble in a rotating bed and are coated with a solution. Meanwhile, air is incorporated into the system, which dries the solution onto the particles.. This tumbling and coating process increases the particle size of the particulates, can mask flavors and odors, can change particle colors and the absorption properties, as well as slow release rates. AVEKA‘s tablet coating systems are designed not only as an aqueous and solvent film coating system, but can also be used as a large scale drying system.

AVEKA’s tablet coating system creates a controlled atmosphere inside a perforated rotating drum that is ideal for certain materials. The no-drip spray design with needle valves ensures precise atomization control coupled with the patterned air flow which creates a uniform particle coating and increases efficiency.

Factors to Consider
  • What is the incoming particle size of the material to be coated?
  • What is the viscosity of the coating material?
  • At what temperatures do the materials degrade?
  • Can the coating be applied at ambient heat or does it require additional heat?
