Particles 10 microns in Size Coated with a Color Shell for the Cosmetics Industry
|
|
Project Overview: The customer, a supplier to the cosmetic industry, has a need to create a color coating around a 10 micron particle. The end particle needed to maintain their unique optical properties, to have color continuity between batches, and not to agglomerate during the process.
AVEKA Solution: This project began as a lab-scale R&D project at AVEKA. It was determined that Wurster coating would be a viable particle modification method. Usually a particle size this small is outside the range of most Wurster coaters due to the loss of material through screens or filters or due to agglomeration. AVEKA was able to modify the process in order to accommodate such a small particle and eliminate these common problems. Successful results at the lab scale led to a production level scale-up at an off-site facility.
Project Points:
- Product Challenges: Particle Size and coating with no agglomeration
- Process: Particle Coating
- Scale: Lab Research and Development to Large Scale Production
- Industry: Cosmetic
